schedule of events
a weekend in the winelands
Below you will find the schedule of events and details for our wedding weekend! We hope to have an incredible time filled with traditions, food, and dancing. On Friday, we will start with our Nelengu ceremony in the morning and then have our Welcome Party in the evening. After our Hindu ceremony and lunch on Saturday, we will relax in the evening and pick things up again the following day, with our Vows Ceremony and Reception on Sunday evening.
While we have noted suggested attire, please feel free to express yourself however is most authentic to you. Our friends and family helm from all over the world, and we want you to dress however you wish per event. If you have any questions on attire, please don’t hesitate to text us (Theo and Elissa) directly.
NELENGU
If you have already arrived to Stellenbosch by the morning of January 10th, please join us for our Nelengu ceremony at Boschendal. For Hindu weddings, this is always a pre-wedding cleansing and purification ceremony. The ritual brings together both the bride’s and groom’s family and friends.
This event will take place at The Retreat at Boschendal. If you are staying at The Retreat, you will be able to walk over! If you are staying at the other cottages located elsewhere on the property, we will have shuttles to take you to The Retreat, with pick ups starting at 9:00 AM.
DRESSY CASUAL / INDIAN CASUAL ATTIRE
While this is a traditional ceremony, we welcome our guests to embrace either Indian or western cultures in their attire for this morning occasion! It will be a warm summer morning, so feel free to wear linen or breezy fabrics. Some guests might be in sarees or kurtas, and some might be in short-sleeve linen button ups or summer dresses or sets. Whatever you choose, we look forward to seeing your beautiful faces nice and early! ;)
WELCOME PARTY
Welcome to our wedding weekend in Stellenbosch! Let’s begin the festivities with a fusion Welcome Party & Sangeet as we kick off the weekend under the mountains! We will gather again at The Retreat, and shuttles will begin pick-ups at each of the cottages at 5:30 PM.
FESTIVE FORMAL ATTIRE
Kicking off our festivities this evening, we welcome our guests to express themselves in their evening festive party wear however they wish! Feel free to have fun, wear color, sequins, embellishments, what have you! Either western or Indian attire is appropriate for this evening. Please wear whatever you are most comfortable in!
HINDU CEREMONY & LUNCH
Please join us for our Hindu wedding ceremony at Johannesdal 1207 on the morning of January 11th. Lunch will be served directly following. Transportation to the venue (located 5 min. down the road from Boschendal) will start at 9:15 AM. We know it is an early morning start, but we want to beat the mid-day sun!
INDIAN FORMAL / WESTERN FORMAL
For this event, we invite and encourage all of our guests from all cultures to wear Indian formalwear for our wedding ceremony. Feel free to wear any and all colors and styles. Reach out directly to Theo and Elissa if you need any guidance at all!
When the lunch is over, you will be transported back to your cottages, where you have the evening to enjoy Franschhoek or Stellenbosch, or kick back and relax on the property. We highly recommend picking up some charcuterie items from The Farm Shop at Boschendal on Friday during the day to have in your cottage, ready to go to picnic and enjoy Saturday evening if you don’t make dinner plans! Otherwise, there are amazing restaurants to eat at on property as well.
VOWS CEREMONY & RECEPTION
On our third day together, we will gather for our Vows Ceremony, followed by a Reception where we will have a sit-down dinner and then…lots of dancing!!!
BLACK TIE / INDIAN FORMAL
While we are suggesting Black Tie attire, we know this is a summer wedding on a vineyard, so feel free to wear what is most comfortable for you! However, our suggestion is here to inspire you to go as crazy with the fashion as you wish. A chance to get as fancy as your heart desires. Go bold, glam, grand, etc. We welcome any and all creative expressions, any color, any texture. Sequins, feathers, what have you. You don’t have to wear a gown or a tux, but if you want to, we absolutely say YES! Let’s roll out the red carpet for you beautiful people, shall we?
